The Vacancy
About the Project
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join an ambitious research programme investigating how reactive oxygen species (ROS) regulate protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) and shape cell signalling. Redox regulation is emerging as a fundamental mechanism controlling signal transduction in health and disease. A central target of this regulation is the family of PTPs whose catalytic and non-catalytic cysteine residues are exquisitely sensitive to oxidation. Despite growing appreciation of their importance, the molecular mechanisms governing phosphatase oxidation, recovery, substrate selection and signalling specificity remain poorly understood.
The successful candidate will investigate how PTPs cross talk with cellular redox biology. The project combines cutting-edge approaches in enzymology, redox biology, quantitative biochemistry, proteomics, signalling and cell biology, with opportunities to develop new methodologies for interrogating oxidation-dependent signalling networks. The successful candidate will have experience in protein biochemistry and molecular biology including DNA cloning.
Research Environment
The postholder will join a multidisciplinary and collaborative research group with expertise in redox signalling, PTPs, immunology, cell biology and proteomics. The project provides opportunities to work closely with national and international collaborators and to generate high-impact mechanistic insights into signalling regulation.
This is a limited term appointment with funding for this post expected to be available for a period of 1 year.

Applicants must hold a PhD or have their thesis submitted when commencing the post. Please note that you will be appointed on the starting salary of £34,500 per annum, if you have not yet been awarded your PhD. All newly appointed postdocs will commence on the salary/scale point that reflects the number of years' post-PhD experience they hold on 30th June in the calendar year they commence employment.
